Christantus Uche Fuels Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.

Even though entering their maiden continental campaign, Crystal Palace are adapting at a rapid pace. Missing key players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable result that all but guarantees them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.

Another victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure direct entry to the last 16, especially after a previous setback against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity

This occasion provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, scoring for the second game in match.

A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season proved outmatched even for a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee injuries.

Control Established from the Start

Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.

Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.

The home side were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Game

The contest was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
